Editor’s Note: This month’s blog series is about switching software or moving away from manual processes. We thought it would be a great time to reshare a previous blog about finding the right technology partner.

The pest control software and technology partners you choose can have a big impact on your business.

That’s why it’s important to evaluate and choose your technology providers carefully. A dedicated technology partner can help you navigate the complexities of pest control software while making sure you’re on track to success. Finding this partner may take a little work, but it will be worth the effort. Start by doing your homework and look for a company that can show you evidence of these six things:

1. A History of Success – Requesting a demo is a great way to find out if they can do what they say they can, and it allows you to ask questions that relate to your specific needs. What’s even better? Search for customer reviews and ask for references. They should be able to connect you with actual users so you can hear first-hand how their experience is.

2. Financial Stability – When you started your pest control business, inevitably, you took on a certain amount of risk. Don’t add to it by partnering with a company that can’t show you a history of financial stability. This ensures that they not only intend to be around for years but have a solid roadmap and plans in place to make that happen.

3. Complete Focus on Pest Control – There are a lot of software providers that say they can perform many of the same functions as the ones that exclusively serve pest control providers. But when you choose a partner that was built by pest control experts specifically for the pest control industry, it ensures your selecting a partner that has a deep understanding of your business.

4. Transparency and Security – If you have concerns about how your data will be stored, make sure you’re looking for a partner that uses Cloud-based software. Cloud-based software means your data is stored and accessed over the internet. This gives you more flexibility so you can operate your pest control business from any location and on any device.

5. A Dedicated Implementation Team – Onboarding new software can take some time to customize and ensure it works with your existing business processes. But the whole process could go off the rails if your office team and technicians don’t have the right training and support in place. You need more than just a phone number to call when you have a question. You need a dedicated team that will ensure everyone on your staff is properly trained so you can get the most out of your software.

6. In-House Customer Support – Understandably, any software or technology solution is bound to get a little confusing or challenging at times. When that happens, make sure your pest control software provider has an in-house, dedicated U.S. support team ready to help long after implementation. Additionally, it’s important to ensure that they’re not going to nickel-and-dime you every time you call.
